CUTTACK, Aug 2 (Rupashree Swetapadma Mohanty): A joint team of police officers and excise officials conducted a major enforcement raid in Koranga village and the nearby cashew forests under the Athagarh police station limits on Sunday. During the operation, the raiding team uncovered an illicit liquor manufacturing site and seized large quantities of illegal alcoholic beverages and brewing ingredients. 
The enforcement team seized 2,345 litres of finished country liquor during the search. In addition to the brewed liquor, the officials found and confiscated 25,200 litres of fermented jaggery wash.
Brewers use this fermented jaggery mixture as a primary raw material to manufacture illegal country liquor. The discovery of this large volume of wash indicates active production in the forest area.
Cuttack District Excise Superintendent Karuna Shankar Tiwari directed the operation. Athagarh Deputy Superintendent C H Tirupathi, Excise Inspector Rabinarayan Pradhan, and Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Sumati Mohanty led the raiding team.
The team included personnel from Athagarh and Banki Excise, District Mobile Unit Cuttack, EI & EB Unit-I Cuttack, Athagarh Police Station, and Narasinghpur Excise Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Rajakishore Nayak.
Following standard enforcement procedures, the officials destroyed the entire stock of seized country liquor and fermented jaggery wash on the spot. The authorities destroyed the raw materials and finished products immediately to prevent any reuse or unlawful distribution.
After completing the raid and destruction process, the enforcement team registered five separate legal cases under the provisions of the Excise Act. Officials filed these cases to initiate formal legal action against those involved in the illegal brewing activity.
Excise and police authorities stated that they will continue similar joint drives across the district. The departments plan to maintain regular inspections and enforcement raids to stop the illegal liquor trade and enforce state excise laws.
