Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched several major development projects across Odisha today. The leaders announced new plans to boost the local economy, improve tribal welfare, and bring new industries to the state. In total, the central government inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects worth about Rs 47,000 crore.
Speaking in Jharsuguda, Minister G Kishan Reddy highlighted a fresh direction for the local coal sector. He announced that the state will move towards coal gasification instead of traditional coal burning. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Coal India Limited will jointly invest Rs 25,000 crore in this effort. Additionally, the central government will provide Rs 46,000 crore to support coal gasification across the country. Reddy explained that this major project will produce fertilizers and create many jobs for local residents.
In Mayurbhanj, Prime Minister Modi focused heavily on uplifting tribal communities. He stated that the government recently opened 500 Eklavya schools and approved 750 model schools to educate tribal youth. More than 1.5 crore tribal children also received valuable educational scholarships. Furthermore, the government approved a new Navodaya Vidyalaya specifically for Mayurbhanj.
Modi noted his past work as a volunteer in tribal areas, sharing that he deeply understands their daily struggles. To improve local health, the government launched a campaign to fight sickle cell anemia and distributed over 4 crore Ayushman health cards. The Jal Jeevan Mission now brings clean drinking water directly to remote homes. The government also runs the 'PM Janman Abhiyan' to deliver basic services right to the doorsteps of tribal families.
The Prime Minister then shared his economic vision for the state. He stated that a strong Odisha creates a strong India. He pointed out two major upcoming milestones: Odisha's 100th anniversary of formation in 2036 and India's 100th anniversary of independence in 2047. Through the new 'Utkarsh Odisha' campaign, the state has already received investment proposals worth Rs 20 lakh crore. Builders are currently working on large-scale mega projects worth Rs 3.5 lakh crore. Modi emphasized the 'Purvodaya' policy, which aims to rapidly develop Eastern India and turn the region into a gateway for national progress.
Finally, Modi praised the people of Odisha for their recent cleanliness drive, known as 'Swacchta se Swagat'. He commended the local citizens and the state government for their excellent teamwork. He also reminded everyone about International Yoga Day on June 21. He noted that yoga holds a very special place in Odisha's culture and invited people all over the world to join the healthy celebrations.
