BALIGUDA, 22/05 (Akulananda Digal): Local health departments organized a special training camp to stop the spread of malaria. Officials held this one-day event at the Barakhama Community Health Center meeting hall. The camp focused on teaching safe ACM spraying methods. This spray helps control mosquitoes in malaria-prone areas. The program targeted eight Gram Panchayats under the Barakhama health center zone.
This correct method stops mosquitoes from biting and prevents the disease from spreading.

Key Leaders and Experts

Mr. Samir Kumar Patnaik led the training program. He works as the District Vector Control Supervisor for the Barakhama and Nuagaon areas. Several senior medical experts joined him to guide the spray workers.
Mr. Sujit Kumar Karji, a district consultant from Phulbani, attended the camp. Dr. Badri Narayan Samal, the Medical Officer of Barakhama, also shared his medical knowledge. Other key speakers included Mr. Manoj Patra, a leprosy care worker, and Mrs. Mariyam Digal, a health officer. They explained the complete spraying process clearly to everyone.

Safe Spraying Instructions

The experts taught the workers exactly how to prepare and use the spray. They shared simple and safe steps to protect the workers and the families:
  • Proper Mixing: Workers must mix 2.5 grams of ACM powder with one liter of water. Next, they add this mixture into a bucket holding nine liters of water.
  • Safe Preparation: Workers must mix the chemicals safely on a plastic sheet or banner. They must never mix the spray directly on bare floors or open porches.
  • Target Areas: Workers must spray dark corners and sleeping areas where mosquitoes usually hide.
  • Correct Technique: They need to pump the machine 25 times per minute. They must also stand exactly one and a half feet away from the wall while spraying.
This correct method stops mosquitoes from biting and prevents the disease from spreading.

Community Support and Future Plans

Many local groups joined this important training. Anganwadi workers and ASHA health volunteers attended the camp. Members from local groups like the ORDA voluntary organization also took part. Volunteers from the Banashree Cultural Youth Council and the Kumbhar Munda Daringbadi organization showed their full support.
The actual spraying work will start very soon. Mr. Krishna Chandra Digal, also known as Bulu, will lead a team of 16 dedicated volunteers. They will visit the local villages and spray houses from May 25, 2026, to June 27, 2026. The whole team works with one big goal. They want to completely remove malaria from the Kandhamal district and keep all citizens healthy.
