Women's Reservation Bill: Massive Protests Planned Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: (Report- Lipika Rani Raut):
Women in Odisha will hold major protests across all districts. They feel upset about the stall of the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament. Dr. Aishwarya Biswal, the state president of the BJP Mahila Morcha, shared this news. She announced that special conferences will happen on April 24 and 25. These events will take place in every organizational district across the state.

A Massive Rally in Bhubaneswar

Recently, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a large march in Bhubaneswar. They called this event the "Jan Akrosh Mahila Padyatra." More than 50,000 women from different parts of society joined the march. They held meetings on the streets. They also protested strongly against opposition leaders. Dr. Biswal thanked all the sisters who stepped forward for their rights. She noted that many men also support the women in this political cause.

The Political Struggle

Dr. Biswal explained the main issue during her speech. The Women's Reservation Bill aims to reserve 33 percent of seats for women. This rule applies to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced this bill to empower women in politics. He wants to close the gap between men and women in leadership roles.
However, Dr. Biswal stated that the Congress party and its allies created roadblocks. She said that parties like Congress, DMK, TMC, Samajwadi Party, and Aam Aadmi Party voted against the measure. She also mentioned that the BJD supported the opposition. Because of these actions, the opposition blocked the legislation.

Current Statistics on Women in Politics

The current numbers show a clear need for change. Right now, women make up only 14 percent of the Lok Sabha. In 18 different states, women represent less than 10 percent of the local lawmakers. In a few states, there are zero women lawmakers. Dr. Biswal pointed out that women today excel in all fields. They fly planes and serve in the army. She believes they deserve a fair share of political power.

Future Plans and Demands

The BJP plans to highlight the actions of the opposition parties. To do this, they will hold district-level conferences. The party expects more than 5,000 women to attend the event in each district. The leaders stated that the women of Odisha will not forgive the politicians who blocked their progress.
The BJP will continue this fight from the national parliament down to the local village councils. They want to ensure that women get their constitutional rights. Dr. Biswal requested women from all backgrounds to join the upcoming events in large numbers.
During this press announcement, several other leaders were present. Former state secretary Niyati Giri attended the event. Former state Mahila Morcha president Jayanti Padhiary also joined the press conference to show her support.
