DASPALLA: (Report- Subash Chandra Barik): A powerful storm caused widespread destruction in Daspalla on Monday afternoon. Heavy rain, strong winds, and hail lashed the region, leaving the town in disarray just one day before the famous Lankapodi Jatra festival.
The local community had decorated the "Mahabir Kshetra" with colorful lights and grand arches for the upcoming celebration. However, the storm destroyed these decorations within minutes. The heavy winds pulled down large light gates on National Highway 57 and ruined the display leading to the Mahabir Temple.
The storm also hit small businesses hard. Many vendors had set up temporary shops for the festival, but the wind and rain blew their structures away, causing significant losses.
Falling trees blocked both sides of the main roads, which brought traffic to a complete standstill. After receiving the news, the Dashapalla fire department and local police reached the spot. They worked together to clear the fallen trees and eventually restored the flow of vehicles.
Local officials monitored the recovery efforts closely. Additional Tehsildar Chandra Sekhar Barik, Executive Officer Avinash Mohanty, and Police Inspector Binay Ranjan Parida remained on-site to manage the situation and ensure public safety.
