Bhubaneswar: (Report- Lipikarani Raut): State officials are actively preparing for the world-famous Puri Rath Yatra scheduled for July 2026. Chief Secretary Anu Garg led the fourth review meeting today. The meeting took place in the conference hall at Lok Seva Bhawan. During the session, officials reviewed the progress of various ongoing tasks. They also checked the status of decisions made during previous meetings.
Anu Garg firmly directed all departments and agencies to finish their preparations well before the grand festival begins.
Many senior government officials attended this important meeting. Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, Hemant Sharma, took part in the discussion. Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, the Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), also joined the session. Principal Secretary of the Law Department, Dr. Pabitra Mohan Samal, and Additional Director General of Police for Modernization, Soumendra Priyadarshi, were present. Puri District Collector Divyajyoti Parida and Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh attended the meeting along with other senior department heads.
The committee focused heavily on crowd control and event safety. Officials discussed methods to pull the massive chariots in a highly disciplined manner. In previous years, too many people with special passes entered the inner security ring around the chariots. This heavy crowd created major problems during the chariot pulling process. To solve this safety issue, the committee plans to drastically reduce the number of inner ring passes this year. This step will help the police manage the crowd better and ensure smooth movement.
Dr. Padhee shared updates regarding the chariot construction process. Workers officially started building the chariots on the holy day of Akshaya Tritiya on April 20. A special technical team currently monitors the quality of the construction work. The Chief Secretary advised this team to inspect the building process regularly.
The temple administration also provided details about the raw materials. Carpenters need exactly 865 pieces of wood to build the three grand chariots. Officials have already collected 576 pieces of wood. They are gathering the remaining wood smoothly. Furthermore, the Chief Secretary ordered the officials to secure extremely strong ropes for pulling the chariots.
Finally, the meeting reviewed the progress of local city infrastructure. The Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation (OBCC) is building several new facilities for incoming visitors. Construction workers have almost finished the Jagannath Ballav Pilgrim Centre. They are also completing the redevelopment of Acharya Harihar Chhak. Moreover, the new multi-level parking facility at Digabareni and Yatrika Parking-1 are currently in their final stages of construction. These new facilities will help tourists park easily and enjoy the festival safely.
