Nayagarh: (Ramakrushna Rath): The people of Nayagarh recently observed the district-level death anniversary of Gobinda Chandra Mishra. He was a dedicated Gandhian leader. He was also the first person from Odisha to meet Mahatma Gandhi to discuss the struggles of the Odia people.
Two local organisations hosted the memorial event. The Sri Ramakrishna Adarsha Sikshya Kendra and the Biplabi Gobinda Chandra Mishra Smruti Parishad worked together to organise the program. The gathering took place at the school auditorium near the local Housing Board. Sridhar Sahoo, the founder and secretary of the school, coordinated the event.
Key Highlights
Nayagarh Zilla Parishad Chairman Er. Debashish Patnaik attended as the chief guest. He paid his respects by offering flowers to the statue of Gobinda Chandra Mishra on the school campus. Prasanna Kumar Panda, president of the Smruti Parishad, led the memorial meeting.During his speech, the chief guest highlighted several of Mishra's major achievements:
- He served as the first Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Daspalla state.
- He was the first Rajya Sabha member from the Nayagarh district.
- He became the first Odia essay writer to win the Sahitya Akademi Award three times.
Many social organisations joined the memorial program. Members from the Bharat Vikas Parishad, Civil Society, and Soham attended the event. Several social workers and local intellectuals also took part. This group included Arun Kumar Mohanty, Anadi Charan Mohanty, Godabarish Sahoo, Niranjan Mishra, Kamakhya Prasad Das, Subal Charan Behera, and Udayanath Nayak.
The school teachers actively helped run the activities. Pradeep Kumar Sahoo, secretary of the Smruti Parishad, delivered the welcome speech. Finally, school secretary Sridhar Sahoo gave the vote of thanks to close the program.
