Cuttack, April 13, 2026 (Rupashree Swetapadma Mohanty): A human skeleton was recovered near Puri Canal Road under Baranga Police Station limits in Cuttack, triggering a detailed investigation by police.
Cuttack DCP Rishikesh Khilari said that after the matter came to light, a forensic team and dog squad were immediately sent to the spot. During examination, the human skeleton was recovered.
Officials noted that some stitches were found on the skull of the skeleton. To ascertain the exact cause and identity, the remains will be sent to the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT) department for further analysis.
DCP Rishikesh Khilari has appealed to the public that if there have been any mysterious deaths, missing person cases, or kidnappings in nearby areas, they should inform the police immediately. The information may help establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances of death.
Police have started a probe into the case and are scanning records of missing persons and unnatural deaths reported in Baranga and adjoining areas. The area around the recovery site has been cordoned off for further evidence collection.
