Nayagarh: A gas cylinder exploded at a home in the Ranpur area of Nayagarh district on Sunday. The accident caused the death of one woman. It also badly hurt five of her family members.
Officials identified the woman as 59-year-old Geetarani Mohanty. She passed away on Monday morning while receiving medical care at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Doctors at the hospital continue to treat the other five family members. Their health remains very poor.
The accident happened at the house of Santosh Praharaj. Neighbors quickly went to the house to help the family. These neighbors took the injured people to local hospitals first. Later, medical workers moved the family to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for advanced care.
Surama Padhy, the local Member of the Legislative Assembly, visited the hospital. She talked to the doctors about the family's health. She promised government support for them. She also shared a public message to pray for their fast recovery.
