BARANGA, April 23, 2026 (Rupashree Swetapadma Mohanty): Local officials in the Cuttack district stopped a major unauthorised cooking gas operation on Wednesday. The enforcement team found a large hidden supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders. They searched an empty storage building in the Gangeswar area of the Baranga tehsil. This action disrupted a large network that sold essential cooking gas at unfair prices to the public.
The officials recorded the following recovered items:
The unauthorised workers used special tools to move gas illegally from one cylinder to another. The officials seized 13 electric motors used for refilling the gas. They also took four heavy weighing machines and five gas cooking stoves. Furthermore, the team found a transport vehicle outside the building. This Mahindra truck contained many filled gas cylinders. The police impounded the truck immediately to secure the evidence.
He stated that the local administration will continue these unexpected searches across the entire district. He wants to make sure that honest buyers receive their cooking gas safely and at the correct price.

The Search Operation

Dr. Tushar Jyotiranjan, the Baranga Tahsildar, quickly organized a special enforcement team. He led this joint group to inspect the building. They surprised the operators and entered the warehouse to discover a massive unauthorized storage facility.Confiscated Items
The enforcement team confiscated a total of 524 gas cylinders during the search. The unauthorized operators stored different types of cylinders meant for various uses.The officials recorded the following recovered items:
- 353 domestic cylinders: Large tanks meant for family homes.
- 92 commercial cylinders: Large tanks meant for restaurants and businesses.
- 79 small cylinders: Compact five-kilogram tanks.

The administration will use the Essential Commodities Act of 1955 to charge the offenders.
