The Sacrifice of a Hero

On April 4, 2010, a fierce gunfight broke out between police forces and Naxals in the forests near Baipariguda, Koraput district. During the heavy exchange of fire, Sanjay Kumar Pradhan was hit by a bullet. He passed away on the spot, laying down his life for the safety of the nation.
Sanjay was the son of Saheb Pradhan from Zilundi village, under the Bhanjanagar police jurisdiction in Ganjam district.

A Community Remembers

Even after 16 years, the memory of Sanjay’s bravery remains fresh in the hearts of his family and fellow villagers. To honor his legacy, a statue of the martyr stands within the premises of the Zilundi High School.

The Tribute Ceremony

Following the directions of the Ganjam Superintendent of Police (SP), the Bhanjanagar Police organized a special memorial service to coincide with Police Foundation Day. Several high-ranking officials attended the event, including:
  • Ranjan Kumar De, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Ganjam
  • Jibanananda Jena, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC), Bhanjanagar
  • Laxmidhar Mohanty, Sub-Inspector (SI)
The officers offered flower garlands at the martyr’s statue and visited his family home. They held a silent prayer and a recitation of the Gita for the peace of his soul.

During the visit, Additional SP Ranjan Kumar De spoke with Sanjay's family members to understand their well-being. He assured them that the police department stands firmly by them and promised to provide necessary support to meet their needs.
