A Deep-Rooted Tradition

Akshaya Tritiya is a very old and respected tradition in Odisha. The day brings joy to farming families across every rural village. Farmers believe this is the most auspicious day to begin their field work. They follow old customs and traditions closely. In the morning, they go to their fields and sow the first paddy seeds. This simple act brings them hope for a rich and healthy harvest.
Furthermore, the festival carries a deep religious meaning. In the holy city of Puri, temple workers start building the grand chariots for Lord Jagannath today. This important work prepares the city for the famous annual Rath Yatra festival.
