Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorms and hail lashed the capital city of Bhubaneswar this afternoon, providing a sharp turn in the local weather. The Regional Meteorological Centre (IMD) predicts that lightning and rain will continue across the state for the next seven days.

Weather Alerts Issued

Authorities have issued specific warnings for various districts as a volatile weather system moves through the region:
  • Orange Warning: Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts are on high alert for the next 24 hours. Residents should expect heavy rain, lightning, and strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h.
  • Yellow Warning: A weather watch is in place for 21 other districts, where scattered storms and rain are likely.

Temperature Outlook

Despite the rain and wind, the weather office stated that there will be no significant change in maximum daytime temperatures over the next two days.
During an Orange Warning, it is best to stay indoors and avoid standing under tall trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms.
