Salepur: (Report- Sishukrishna Nanda): The vibrant festival of Dola Jatra has officially begun, marking a tradition that has been a heartbeat of Odia culture for generations. This festival brings a sense of joy and devotion to every home and village across the state.

The Divine Journey

The celebrations started on the Dashami tithi of the bright fortnight in the month of Phalguna. According to tradition, the idols of Radha and Krishna are placed in beautifully decorated palanquins, known as Vimanas.
The deities then travel through the village, visiting households where devotees offer special bhog (offerings). The atmosphere remains electric with the sound of traditional music, drums, and processions as the deities eventually move toward the main festival grounds.

Massive Gathering at Chhanipur

This year, the festivities reached a high point at the Chhanipur Dola Padiya in the Salepur block of Cuttack district. The event witnessed an impressive gathering:
  • Participation: More than 20 decorated Vimanas from surrounding areas assembled at the field.
  • Crowd: Hundreds of people from various places flocked to the site to catch a glimpse of the deities.
  • Atmosphere: The grounds were filled with energy, devotion, and the colorful spirit of the spring festival.
