NAYAGARH: (Report- Ramakrushna Rath): The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) organised a massive rally and protest meeting in Nayagarh on Wednesday. Led by MLA Dr. Arun Kumar Sahoo, the demonstration highlighted growing concerns over the safety of women and the neglect of farmers in the state. Thousands of party workers and farmers marched through the streets to voice their grievances against the current administration.
Finally, the BJD members submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor through District Collector Madhumita Rath. They demanded immediate action to protect women and provide justice to the farming community.
Key Leaders Join the Movement
Several senior BJD leaders participated in the event. The group included Devi Prasad Mishra, Sanjay Das Burma, and Ramesh Chandra Behera. Other prominent figures like Debashis Patnaik and Irani Ray also joined the protest. The rally started at the Nayagarh playground and moved toward the Collector's office, drawing more than 5,000 participants.Focus on Women’s Safety
During a public meeting at the playground, Dr. Arun Kumar Sahoo criticized the government’s policies. He stated that women and young girls are no longer safe in the state. Senior leader Devi Prasad Mishra added that students in colleges and women in general feel insecure. He expressed deep sadness over the rising incidents of harassment and neglect toward mothers and daughters.Farmers’ Issues and Broken Promises
The leaders also raised several points regarding the agricultural crisis.- Paddy Procurement: Leaders alleged that many farmers are unable to sell their crops. They criticized the government for failing to keep its promise of buying grain without unfair deductions.
- Financial Aid: The party questioned the delay in social security pensions. They noted that many beneficiaries have not received their allowances for four months.
- Sugar Mill Concerns: Irani Ray reminded the public about promises made regarding the local sugar mill, which remain unfulfilled.
Demand for Action
The protest reached a peak when the crowd arrived at the District Collector's office. Protesters entered the premises and raised slogans against the government's "reckless" policies.
