DASPALLA: (Report- Subash Chandra Barik): The District Forest Protection and Climate Change Federation of Nayagarh organised a significant event to observe the 22nd death anniversary of late Chandramani Nayak. The program, held at the Raghunathpur Shiva Temple premises in Odagaon, combined a memorial service with an urgent call for environmental conservation.

Honoring a Legacy
The event began with a floral tribute to the portrait of Chandramani Nayak. Attendees honored his memory through devotional songs performed by Alekh Bhai. The meeting was presided over by the Federation’s President, Sharat Chandra Nayak, and coordinated by Nature Friend Paramananda Swain.Prominent guests at the event included:

A Call to Protect Nature
During the meeting, Secretary Kishore Chandra Dalabehera delivered a powerful speech regarding the current climate crisis.The speakers emphasized several key environmental goals:
- Stopping Crop Residue Burning: Farmers were requested to stop burning straw (pala-podi) to prevent air pollution.
- Organic Farming: Shifting from chemical fertilizers to organic manure.
Several environmental activists and representatives from organizations like Sambhav and Nirman attended the gathering. The speakers also took pride in noting that Nayagarh’s traditional community forest protection method, known as Thenga Pali, is now recognized in textbooks both nationally and internationally.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Swain and a closing speech by President Sharat Chandra Nayak.
