SINAPALI, (Report - Malay Meher): Two minor sisters died by drowning in a village pond at Tileimal under Jharabandh panchayat in Nuapada district on Sunday. 
The deceased were identified as Yashoda Hans (8) and Gupteshwari Hans (6), daughters of local resident Nilakantha Hans.
According to reports, the girls left home to bathe in the Darlibandha pond at approximately 11:00 AM. When they did not return, their father searched the area and found their clothes in a bucket on the pond's embankment. He alerted local residents, who subsequently located and recovered the bodies from the water.
Personnel from the Sinapali police station arrived at the location, secured the bodies, and initiated an investigation.
Preliminary inquiries indicate that the pond was recently excavated to a greater depth near the bathing steps during renovation work. Police suspect the girls slipped into the deep water while bathing. Official confirmation regarding the circumstances of the deaths is pending the post-mortem report.
A delay was reported in transporting the bodies to the local health center for the autopsy. Despite requests made to the hospital for a transport vehicle, an ambulance did not arrive at the location.
Due to the delay, Sinapali Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Maheshwar Panigrahi transported the bodies to the medical facility using a police vehicle.
Local residents acknowledged the officer's intervention but expressed dissatisfaction over the health center's failure to dispatch a transport vehicle on time.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
