NUAPADA, AUGUST 5 (Repot - Malay Meher): The Excise Department seized 221 liters of various alcoholic beverages during a targeted raid in the Deodhara Gram Panchayat area of Nuapada district on Wednesday. Officials arrested five individuals for their involvement in the unlawful storage and distribution of these alcoholic drinks. 
The Nuapada Excise Range planned and executed the operation following direct instructions from the Nuapada District Superintendent of Excise. The raid took place under the jurisdiction of the Komna Police Station. Enforcement officers inspected multiple locations across the Deodhara village area to check for unlicensed liquor production, distribution, and sales.
During the inspection, the excise team discovered and confiscated multiple varieties of illegal alcohol. The seized stock included commercial liquor brands as well as locally brewed alcoholic beverages.
Excise officials registered formal cases against the five accused persons under the relevant sections of the state Excise Act. Following the preliminary investigation and the documentation of the seized evidence, the officers arrested the suspects at the scene. Authorities then produced the arrested individuals before the local court, and the magistrate remanded them to judicial custody.
Excise Inspector Hirabati Thati led the special raiding team during the field operation. Sub-Inspectors Brundabati Bhua and Mangal Chhatria assisted the Inspector in executing the search and seizure. Several other excise staff members and field personnel actively supported the operation to secure the locations and transport the confiscated items to the station.
The Excise Department continues its district-wide drive against illegal liquor trade, unauthorised distilleries, and contraband smuggling networks. Department officials confirmed that they will conduct regular inspections and surprise raids across the region in the coming weeks. The agency aims to enforce excise laws strictly, eliminate illegal supply chains, and prevent the unlawful sale of alcohol across all blocks of the Nuapada district.
