CUTTACK, August 1 (Report - Rupashree Swetapadma Mohanty): A special team of the Cuttack Sadar Excise Department seized 140 grams of heroin and arrested a 48-year-old man on Friday afternoon. Officials estimated the market value of the seized drugs at approximately Rs 15.20 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, the excise team conducted the raid at 12:35 PM on the road in front of Durga Mandap in the Jobra area. The officials intercepted and arrested Jitendra Bastia, a resident of Tulsipur Christian Sahi under the Bidanasi police station limits.
Excise officials stated that the accused had been selling illegal drugs in the locality for a long time. During the arrest, the team also confiscated his motorcycle.
Cuttack Excise Superintendent Karuna Shankar Tiwari supervised the operation, while Sadar Range Excise Inspector Kamal Lochan Paikray led the raiding team. The team included Cuttack-2 Excise Station Officer Biswajit Aruk, ASI Kamalakantha Behera, and Constables Premanjali Tirkey, Rajkrishna Biswal, and Ramakant Rout.
The department registered a case under Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Officials produced the accused before the Cuttack District and Sessions Court. Investigating officers are currently tracing the supply network to identify other individuals involved in the trade.
