Nayagarh, (Report- Ramakrushna Rath): The people of Nayagarh recently celebrated the famous Odia festival of Raja with immense joy and enthusiasm. Pradipta Prakash Acharya, a young film producer and social worker, organised a grand event called "Raja Mauja." He hosted this unique celebration at the Pathani Samanta Auditorium in Nayagarh, bringing the community together for a day of fun.
Raja is a major cultural festival in the state of Odisha. It honors womanhood and celebrates the changing seasons. During this three-day festival, women and girls take a break from their daily work. They wear new clothes, play on swings, and eat traditional sweets. The event in Nayagarh perfectly captured the true spirit of this beautiful tradition.
The Municipality Executive Officer inaugurated the glorious event. Many women gathered to witness the cheerful start of the festival. The guests and participants chewed traditional betel leaves, known as paan. They enjoyed rides on beautifully decorated swings. The organisers also distributed delicious Poda Pitha, a famous baked rice cake of Odisha, to everyone present.
After the grand opening, the auditorium buzzed with exciting activities all day long. Women and girls enthusiastically participated in traditional games. They played the popular Odia game called Puchi and enjoyed several rounds of musical chairs. The halls echoed with the sounds of Hulahuli, a traditional celebratory cheer made by women. Later in the day, the organisers hosted a special "Raja Sundari" (Raja Queen) competition to showcase local talent.
Entertainment played a massive role in the festival's success. Punam Mishra, a leading actress in the Odia film industry, attended the event. She delivered a fantastic dance and acting performance. Her lively act captivated the audience and kept them cheering throughout the show.
The event ended with a grand prize distribution ceremony. Smt. Surama Padhy, the respected Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, attended as the chief guest. Nayagarh Block Chairman Kishore Chandra Sahoo and SDPO Srushti Pradhan also joined the celebration as guests of honor.
