Odisha's Blue Economy Boom: How New Deep Sea Fishing & Shrimp Missions Will Create 50,000+ Jobs

Gokulananda Mallik is the Minister of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development. He officially opened the workshop. He shared a strong message with the audience. The minister said the state government wants to build a very successful "Blue Economy". The Blue Economy means making money from ocean resources while keeping the ocean healthy. The government has created a clear plan to reach this big goal.
The first project is the Odisha Deep Sea Fishing Mission. This plan focuses on the deep waters of the Bay of Bengal. The state aims to harvest an extra 200,000 metric tons of fish each year. This extra fish will feed more people and sell well in markets.

This mission will also change lives. The government expects to create over 50,000 new jobs. Many people living near the coast will find steady work. The mission will also help current fishermen. The government plans to double or even triple the money these fishermen earn. This will give their families a much better life.
The second project is the Odisha Shrimp Mission. This plan uses modern ideas to grow more shrimp. Farmers will use super-intensive farming methods. This method grows large amounts of shrimp in small water areas safely. The government wants farmers to produce 30 to 40 metric tons of shrimp per hectare every single year.
The state also wants to protect nature during this rapid growth. Because of this, the State Fisheries Department signed a new agreement. They joined hands with a top research group named ICAR-CIBA.
The experts from ICAR-CIBA will guide the state. They will teach farmers how to grow seafood without hurting the environment. They will also map out special zones. These zones will show the best and safest places to farm. They will use satellite maps to watch the progress. Together, these two missions will bring wealth, food, and safe farming to the people of Odisha.
