Nayagarh: 23/05 (Report- Ramakrushna Rath): The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) announced a major protest plan for Nayagarh district. The political party is very unhappy with the frequent power cuts in the region. Local BJD leaders plan to surround the TPCODL (Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Limited) office on Monday, May 25. They want immediate solutions to the electricity crisis.
Nayagarh Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Dr. Arun Kumar Sahoo led a press conference at the district BJD office on Wednesday, May 22. He blamed the current state government for the poor electricity supply. He stated that the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister previously promised zero power cuts across the state. However, the government currently gives excuses while ordinary citizens face harsh conditions.
The MLA highlighted the daily struggles of the local people. Students cannot study properly, and patients in hospitals face severe difficulties. Elderly people and small children suffer greatly in the summer heat. The sudden power cuts also disrupt local drinking water supplies and force important office operations to a halt. Furthermore, low voltage issues regularly damage expensive electrical appliances like water pumps and computers.
Dr. Sahoo strongly criticised Tata Power for its poor management. He said the company installs smart meters and cuts power in the middle of the night without any warning. The company collects electricity bills strictly on time. Yet, the company takes many hours or even days to repair broken power lines. The BJD leader called these actions completely unfair to regular consumers.
The party also reminded the current government of its past election promises. The government previously promised to provide 300 units of free electricity to the public, but they have not fulfilled this promise. Dr. Sahoo demanded an uninterrupted power supply for the entire district. He also asked for free electricity for local farmers and lower overall electricity charges.
Many local leaders attended the press meeting to show their full support. They urged the public to join the upcoming protest on May 25. Important attendees included Block BJD President Bhanjakishore Mohapatra, Municipal President Dasharathi Sahoo, Youth BJD President Duryodhan Behera, Block Vice-Chairperson Laxmipriya Behera, and several Zilla Parishad members.
