Nayagarh, May 18: (Report- Ramakrushna Rath): Political tension is rising in the Nayagarh district. Local leaders filed a no-confidence motion against the Nayagarh Block Chairman, Kishore Chandra Sahu, today. The members submitted the official document to the Sub-Collector, Karnadev Samaddar. This move creates a major administrative challenge for the current Block Chairman.
Nayagarh Block Chairman Faces No-Confidence Over Party Switch

Block Vice-Chairperson Laxmipriya Sahoo led this action against the Chairman. Exactly forty-five local leaders, including Sarpanchs and Samiti Members, signed the official letter. They went together to hand over the proposal to the district administration. The Sub-Collector confirmed that he received the document. He stated that the office will take the next steps according to the official Panchayat Act rules.
The trouble started when Kishore Chandra Sahu changed his political party. He resigned from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on May 12. A few days later, on the evening of May 15, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He made this move quietly without informing the local BJD members. The Sarpanchs and Samiti Members felt very upset because he broke party discipline and kept them in the dark about his decisions.
The unhappy local leaders organised a special meeting on May 15 to discuss the situation. During this gathering, they evaluated the Chairman's recent actions and listed four main complaints against him. First, they stated that he does not hold regular Panchayat Samiti meetings as the law requires. Second, they accused him of failing to use government funds properly for local development. Third, they felt his actions do not benefit the general public. Fourth, they claimed he completely ignores their new project ideas and makes administrative decisions all by himself.
Kishore Chandra Sahoo told the public that he left the BJD for personal reasons. However, local people and politicians are discussing other possible motives. Zilla Parishad member Subash Chandra Kanhar spoke about this issue openly. He claimed that the Chairman joined the BJP to protect his private transport business and his other commercial operations in the Gajapati district. Many local leaders feel great disappointment regarding his sudden political shift and view it as a breach of trust.

Kishore Chandra Sahoo has a long history in local politics. Voters elected him as the Sarpanch of the Bhatasahi Panchayat in 2017. Later, in 2022, local representatives from twenty-nine panchayats chose him as the Block Chairman with the strong support of the local BJD leadership. Now, those same leaders refuse to accept his recent choices. Many prominent political figures attended the document submission today to show their strict unity against the Chairman.
