Bhubaneswar: (Report- Priya Ranjan Nayak): The Excise Department of Bhubaneswar recently conducted a major raid. They seized illegal substances worth two million rupees from the Utkal University campus, also known as Vani Vihar. This shocking discovery has raised serious concerns about campus safety. Officials found 195 grams of contraband during the operation. They caught two smugglers who were trying to sell these dangerous materials to university students.

The authorities arrested two individuals. The suspects are 24-year-old Aman Naik and Sourav Kumar Tudu. Officials have already sent both men to court to face legal action. Senior officials from the Excise Department shared these details during a press meeting. They held this meeting at the District Excise Office located in the Kalpana area at 8:15 PM.
The two arrested men live in a nearby settlement outside the university campus. However, they chose the university grounds for their illegal activities. They believed the campus provided a safe cover for their secret trade. The smugglers used a specific plan to target victims. First, they would approach the young college students. Then, they would pretend to be their friends. Over time, they built trust with the students. Finally, they introduced the students to these harmful substances. Their goal was to trap young people who come to the university to build a good future.
This is not the first time such an incident has happened. Authorities found that one of the suspects, Sourav Kumar Tudu, has a criminal history. Exactly one year ago, the Excise team caught him in the same location. During that previous raid, officials seized 180 grams of illegal materials from him. He was operating inside the Vani Vihar campus back then as well.

This repeated illegal activity raises many serious questions. People are asking how the local Sahid Nagar police station missed this. They also wonder why the university administration did not notice these activities. The university employs security guards to protect the entire campus. Police patrol vans also drive through the area regularly. Despite these security measures, the smugglers continued their illegal business. Some people wonder if the authorities are ignoring the problem. Others suspect that corrupt individuals might be taking money to stay silent.

The students are now making strong demands to both the university administration and the local police. They want strict actions to stop this illegal trade completely. They demand better protection so they can study in a safe and peaceful environment.
