The Commission read about this terrible event in local newspapers. They decided to take action right away. They did not wait for anyone to file a formal complaint. Instead, they took note of the situation on their own. The Commission sent official letters to top state leaders. They wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary of the Government of Odisha. They also wrote to the Superintendent of Police for the Gajapati district. The Commission asked these leaders to provide a complete and detailed report about the accident. They gave the officials exactly two weeks to finish this task.
News reports shared more details about the day of the accident. The young girls were simply playing near the entrance of the school. Suddenly, the large gate came loose and fell down. The children could not move out of the way in time. People who live near the school saw the accident happen. These helpful neighbors ran to assist the girls. They carried the students to a nearby hospital as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, the doctors at the hospital could not save them. The doctors announced that the girls had already passed away before they arrived.

The National Human Rights Commission feels very strongly about this issue. They believe this accident raises big questions about basic human rights. Children have a basic right to study and play in a completely safe environment. The government has a duty to protect students while they are at school. When school buildings or gates fail, it puts innocent lives at risk.
Now, the state officials must investigate the school property. They must find out why the gate fell. They need to check if someone forgot to repair the heavy metal structure. The Commission expects clear answers in the upcoming report. This situation serves as an urgent reminder for every community. All public schools must check their walls, fences, and gates. School leaders must fix any broken parts immediately. Parents trust the government when they send their children to school. Everyone must work together to keep schools safe so that children can learn without any danger.
