Bhubaneswar, April 25, 2026 (Report- Lipikarani Raut): Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended a state-level event today to celebrate World Veterinary Day. The government held the program at the State Convention Centre. During the event, the Chief Minister announced several big steps to improve animal wealth, animal health, and fisheries across Odisha.
The Chief Minister announced more new projects to test diseases and animal feed. The government will build a state-level molecular lab in Cuttack for 10 crore rupees. They will also upgrade a state-level food testing lab for 6 crore rupees.
He also focused on the welfare of fishermen. He opened a new fish landing center in Bhadrak and upgraded the Dhamra fishing harbor. The government spent 50 crore rupees on these coastal projects.
The state government recently launched several large financial plans:
To bring animal healthcare closer to the people, the government will hire 2,000 trained community animal health workers, known as 'A-HELP'. These workers will help farmers vaccinate their animals in rural villages. The Chief Minister ended the program by rewarding successful veterinarians and farmers.
Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik also spoke at the event. He reminded everyone that veterinarians protect our society from animal diseases. Other senior officials, including Department Secretary Prem Chandra Chaudhary and Director Vijay Amruta Kulange, also attended the successful event.
Expanding Veterinary Infrastructure
The Chief Minister opened 76 new veterinary hospitals and 4 animal help centers to strengthen healthcare for animals. The government spent about 100 crore rupees to build these facilities. The state also signed agreements with six companies. These companies will help build 219 new veterinary hospitals and testing labs for 177 crore rupees.The Chief Minister announced more new projects to test diseases and animal feed. Empowering Farmers and Fishermen
OPOLFED celebrated its 50th anniversary at the event. To mark the day, the Chief Minister started new marketing centers for brown eggs and local 'Aseel' chicken. He expressed hope that these centers will help poultry farmers get fair prices.He also focused on the welfare of fishermen. He opened a new fish landing center in Bhadrak and upgraded the Dhamra fishing harbor. The government spent 50 crore rupees on these coastal projects.
Boosting Farm Incomes
The Chief Minister praised veterinarians in his speech. He said they treat animals that cannot speak, calling them gods for the animals. He told the audience that traditional farming alone cannot increase farmers' incomes. He asked farmers to take up fish farming, cow rearing, poultry, and goat rearing. He stated that his goal is to multiply farmers' incomes, not just double them.The state government recently launched several large financial plans:
- Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana: The government will spend 1,423 crore rupees on this dairy plan. It will help more than 15 lakh dairy farmers over the next five years. The state gives up to a 70 percent subsidy to farmers who buy cows that produce a lot of milk.
- Mukhyamantri Prani Kalyan Yojana: The government set aside 33 crore rupees for this animal welfare plan. This money will build new cow shelters and provide food and medicine.
- Pranisampad Samrudhi Yojana: The state will spend 1,031 crore rupees to boost poultry and egg production. This plan aims to help 3.73 lakh families.
Vision for the Future
The Chief Minister spoke about the theme of the year, "Veterinarians for Good Food and Health." He wants Odisha to produce its own milk, eggs, and meat.
