Athagarh, April 15, 2026 (Rupashree Swetapadma Mohanty): The Athagarh Congress committee observed the 135th sacred birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, with grandeur at the party office here on Tuesday.

A discussion meeting on “Ambedkar, Constitution and Social Justice” was held under the chairmanship of Athagarh Block Congress President Kiran Bihari Khatua. The programme began with Congress functionaries paying floral tributes to Babasaheb’s portrait as a mark of honour and respect.
The meeting was attended by Athagarh Congress MLA candidate Sudarshan Sahoo, Town Congress President Ashok Kumar Dash, former town president Somanath Bhakta, Manas Ranjan Pattnaik, and District General Secretary Priyabrata Das. Several senior leaders and workers — including Kailash Chandra Sahoo, Satyananda Gochhayat, Rakesh Rout, Babu Baral, Abhay Nayak, Prakash Chandra Dalai, and Bhaskar Behera — also participated in the deliberations.
Addressing the gathering, speakers said Babasaheb was not merely the framer of the Constitution but a social revolutionary, an icon of education, and a symbol of justice and equality. His unforgettable contribution will always inspire human values, social awakening, and the building of a just India, they noted. They added that his role was vital in building a strong India and that the Congress party has always honoured Babasaheb’s legacy.
Concluding the meeting, President Kiran Bihari Khatua urged all present to draw inspiration from Babasaheb’s ideals and work for people standing in the last row of society.
