Cuttack, April 17, 2026 (Rupashree Swetapadma Mohanty): Barabati-Cuttack MLA Sofia Firdous tore papers at a press meet on Thursday, alleging widespread irregularities in the allotment of the food court built by the Cuttack Municipal Corporation in front of Barabati Stadium.

She said the food court was constructed a few months ago to accommodate vendors and stop them from operating on roadsides. However, the works were executed without the Commissioner’s signature, she alleged.
The MLA claimed all construction work in the food court was substandard. She further alleged that stalls had been allotted to favoured persons and multiple units were given to single individuals.

She raised doubts over the role of the construction agency and the Mayor, stating that due to a “honeymoon” between the two, genuine vendors were suffering. Real vendors were neither identified nor allotted stalls, she said.
“Since all paperwork was not done properly, there is no justification for this food court,” Sofia said while tearing the documents at the press conference.
