Cuttack, April 23, 2026 (Report- Rupashree Swetapadma Mohanty): Two major political parties in India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress, are currently discussing the Women’s Reservation Act. People also call this law the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam of 2023. This important law aims to reserve seats for women in the national parliament and state assemblies. It wants to give women a stronger voice in making the country's laws. However, the delay in applying this law has started a fresh debate between the leaders. Both sides want to show the public that they support women the most.
BJP vs. Congress: Clash Over Women’s Reservation Delay

The Statements from the BJP

The BJP leads the central government today. Recently, BJP leaders questioned the Congress party about the new law. Parliament already approved this bill. Yet, the law still needs full implementation across the country. The BJP claims that the Congress party causes these delays. They state that the Congress party does not truly care about the welfare and progress of women. BJP leaders tell the public that their own party works hard to bring equal rights to women in politics.

Congress Organises a Press Conference

The Congress party quickly replied to these comments. The Cuttack City District Congress Committee arranged a special press conference. They held this meeting at the Nishamani Convention Hall located on Link Road in Cuttack. During this public event, Congress leaders told reporters that the BJP tells incomplete stories to the citizens. They gathered there to explain their exact thoughts on the reservation law and to defend their party's history.

Questions from Prasad Harichandan

Prasad Harichandan, a former leader of the Pradesh Congress Committee, spoke clearly at the press conference. He strongly disagreed with the BJP government's methods. He asked the central government several direct questions. First, he asked why the government rushed the bill during a special session of Parliament. Second, he pointed out a missing step in the process. He said the Prime Minister did not invite all political parties to a joint meeting before bringing the bill to Parliament.

A Call for Better Teamwork

Harichandan shared more ideas with the reporters. He believes that all parties must discuss major national laws together. He said the government must build basic agreement through proper, face-to-face talks. He criticized the government for seeking support on social media websites instead of holding real political meetings with other leaders. He stated that the BJP made these sudden decisions just to hurt the public image of the Congress party.
The political tension over the Women’s Reservation Act continues to grow every day. The Congress party officially calls the BJP’s recent statements pure political advertising. Both parties stand firm on their views. Meanwhile, the public watches closely. Citizens wait to see when the government will actually apply the new rules to help more women enter national and state politics.
