BERHAMPUR: (Report- Ramakrushna Pani): The city of Berhampur celebrated the fifth evening of the famous Silk City Festival on April 10, 2026. The grand event also hosted the Subhadra Shakti program and the Atmanirbhar Bharat Swadeshi Mela. People from all over the region gathered to enjoy a vibrant evening filled with art, culture, and local shopping.
Other key officials included Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) Commissioner Akbaram Sasya Reddy, Zilla Parishad Chief Development Officer Sameer Kumar Jena, and Berhampur Sub-Collector Abinash Kumar. Swadeshi Jagaran Manch Advisor Er. Simanchal Das, BDA Secretary Ramesh Hansdah, BeMC Deputy Commissioner Kalyani Sanghamitra, and several city corporators also joined the celebration.
Mayor Sanghamitra Dalei spoke about the famous Berhampur Patta (silk). She said this traditional silk is very unique. She suggested that weavers must introduce new designs to attract the younger generation. She pushed for better promotion of the silk and requested a special training center in the city to teach these skills.
The evening featured a beautiful cultural program. Singer Satyajit Pradhan and his team entertained the audience with sweet music. Several groups performed amazing dances:

Earlier in the evening, BDA Secretary Ramesh Hansdah gave the welcome speech to start the program. Finally, BeMC Deputy Commissioner Kalyani Sanghamitra delivered the vote of thanks to conclude the beautiful evening.
Distinguished Guests in Attendance
Many important leaders and officials attended the event. Chikiti MLA Manoranjan Dyansamantara, Berhampur Mayor Sanghamitra Dalei, and Ganjam District Collector V. MLA Manoranjan Dyansamantara addressed the large crowd. He stated that Ganjam district has a very rich culture. He called the Silk City Festival a perfect platform to present local art to the public. He mentioned that Ganjam will play a major role in achieving the government's goals for a Developed Odisha and a Developed India. He also shared exciting news about a government plan to build a new port near Sunapur. Awards and Cultural Programs
The event organizers honored all the BeMC corporators for their excellent work in developing Berhampur city. Deputy Mayor Er. Movie Screening and Closing
The organizers also screened an Odia movie named "Mehermunda." Nikunja Hota directed the film, and Rakesh Kumar Padhi produced it.
