Narsinghpur, April 19, 2026 (Rupashree Swetapadma Mohanty): A sick female elephant died during treatment near Guptamanik village in Narsinghpur, the Forest Department said on Friday.
Officials said the deceased elephant was approximately 55 years old. The animal had been unwell and lying near Guptamanik forest for the past several days. After receiving information, forest staff and a veterinary team reached the spot and began treatment. However, the elephant died on Friday afternoon while under care.
According to the Forest Department, age-related complications and weakness likely caused the illness. A post-mortem will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death, Narsinghpur Range Officer said. Further details will be available after the report.
As per forest norms, the carcass will be buried in the jungle after the post-mortem. Forest personnel and local residents were present at the site.
