₹447 Crore Boost for Western Odisha: Major Highway Upgrade to Link Chhattisgarh and Gopalpur Port

The upgrade work will cover a total stretch of 103.52 km under National Highway 353 and National Highway 59. Passing through Nuapada and Balangir districts, the improved road will strengthen connectivity between Odisha and Chhattisgarh, linking key cities like Raipur and Mahasamund. This corridor is set to emerge as a vital interstate route soon.
Additionally, the project will enhance road connectivity to Brahmapur and Gopalpur Port, thereby boosting industrial activities, trade, and export potential in the region.
Beyond infrastructure, the project addresses long-standing regional challenges such as poor road conditions, traffic bottlenecks, and logistical difficulties faced by traders. Farmers will benefit from easier access to markets, while commuters can expect faster and safer travel.
The tourism sector is also set to gain significantly. Improved accessibility to destinations like Daringbadi and Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary is likely to increase tourist footfall, creating new livelihood opportunities for local communities.
Overall, this project stands as a ray of hope for Western Odisha. By strengthening road infrastructure, it is poised to accelerate economic growth, improve connectivity, and open new avenues for social and tourism development across the region.
