Cuttack, April 21, 2026 (Rupashree Swetapadma Mohanty): After a wait of 11 years, the statue of former Odisha Chief Minister Late Janaki Ballabh Patnaik was installed at Jagatpur Golei Square in Cuttack.
Congress workers from across Cuttack district gathered in large numbers at the programme and offered floral tributes to the statue. Party members paid homage while recalling the late leader’s contribution to the state, his administrative ability, and his popularity.
Local Congress units had been demanding the installation of the statue at Jagatpur Square for a long time. With the demand fulfilled on Monday, enthusiasm was evident among party workers. Senior district Congress leaders, Youth Congress members, and supporters attended the event and resolved to follow Patnaik’s ideals.
Janaki Ballabh Patnaik served as Chief Minister of Odisha from 1980 to 1989 and from 1995 to 1999. His tenure saw several development works in education, industry, and infrastructure sectors.
An emotional atmosphere prevailed in the area after the statue was unveiled.
