Nayagarh: (Report- Ramakrushna Rath): In a significant move toward female empowerment and safety, Model Degree College recently hosted a successful six-day self-defense training camp. The program, sponsored by the Higher Education Department of the Government of Odisha, focused on providing essential safety skills to first-year female students (Plus 3).

The closing ceremony was a vibrant event held on the college campus. Principal Dr. Manas Ranjan Satapathy presided over the function, emphasizing the importance of physical and mental preparedness for young women in today's world.

Expert Guidance and Practical Skills

The event featured Dr. Jyoti Ranjan Samantaray, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Nayagarh, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Samantaray shared valuable insights with the students. He urged them to be mentally strong and confident. During his speech, he discussed various practical techniques that students can use to protect themselves during emergencies. His presence underscored the vital link between community safety and law enforcement.

Sharing Experiences

The program was coordinated by Lecturer Rinabala Ghadei, who presented a detailed report on the activities conducted during the six-day workshop. The camp was not just about physical training; it was also a platform for sharing personal growth.
Two participants, Tulasi Biswal and Subhashree Mohanty, shared their experiences with the audience. They spoke about how the training increased their confidence and taught them how to stay calm under pressure. Additionally, an alumna, Varsha Jena, shared a real-life story about how self-defense skills helped her in the past, serving as an inspiration for the new batch.

Highlights of the Event

  • Visual Learning: Dr. Sitaram Swain organized a short video presentation showcasing key training moments and techniques.
  • Recognition: Over one hundred students received official certificates from the Chief Guest, marking their successful completion of the course.
  • Community Support: Numerous faculty members, including Dr. Santosh Kumar Behera and Dr. Aparajita Mishra, attended to show their support for the initiative.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Lecturer Deepika Rani Turuk, who also managed the stage proceedings. This initiative by the Odisha government continues to play a crucial role in building a safer and more self-reliant generation of women.
