Bhanjanagar: (Report- Sanatan Mahakud): The Ghumusar Research Institute recently held a significant General Council meeting to discuss the preservation of regional heritage and future academic initiatives. The meeting took place at the Kalinji Samaj Kula Gruha and was led by the institute's convener, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mishra.
Presided over by Dr. Santosh Kumar Apt, the session began with a celebration of the institute’s recent official registration as a state-level organisation. Members expressed deep gratitude to the office bearers for reaching this milestone, which strengthens the institute's ability to protect the culture of the Ghumusar region.

During the financial review, Treasurer Shri Damodar Sarangi presented the annual budget. The council praised his efficiency for completing the audit work within the stipulated timeframe. General Secretary Shri Tapan Kumar Mishra also presented the annual report, which received full approval.
The meeting concluded with insightful discussions from several members, including Netaji Bishoyi and Dr. Rashmita Kumari Patnaik, regarding future projects. Shri Jagabandhu Jena offered the formal vote of thanks to close the session.

One of the primary focuses of the meeting was the state of local landmarks. The council noted that the full-length statue of the legendary poet, Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja, in Berhampur city is currently in a state of neglect.To address this, the members unanimously decided to:
- Submit a formal petition to the District Administration and the Berhampur Municipal Corporation.
- Request the relocation of the statue to a more dignified and prominent location.
- Urge authorities to grant "Memorial Institution" status to century-old organisations within the Ganjam district.
Promoting Regional History and Education
The institute aims to bring the historical, social, and economic narrative of the Ghumusar region to the public eye. The council approved several educational initiatives, including:- Academic Publications: Publishing research-based books on local architecture, art, and religion.
- College Workshops: Organising seminars focused on Ghumusar’s history in various colleges.
- School Competitions: Hosting events for students to increase awareness of their cultural roots.
National Seminar and Financial Review
Looking ahead to April 2026, the institute will organise a National Seminar in Bhanjanagar titled "Kandha Rebellion Against Colonialism."
