Nayagarh: (Report- Ramakrushna Rath): A significant one-day district-level health camp was recently organised to tackle health issues among college students. The event focused on screening hemoglobin levels to assess the impact of anemia. This initiative was a collaborative effort between the National Youth Red Cross and the Model Degree College.

Large Participation from Local Colleges

The camp saw an impressive turnout, with approximately 350 female students participating from 12 different colleges across the district. These students provided blood samples for testing to check their iron levels and overall health status.

Distinguished Guests and Insights

The event was held under the leadership of the college principal, Dr. Manas Ranjan Satapathy. The official inauguration was performed by Ganesh Chandra Patra, the head of the Odisha State Red Cross.
A major highlight of the day was the presence of Padma Shri awardee Sabarmati, who shared deep insights into the challenges posed by anemia. Following the opening, a technical session was conducted by Dr. Bandita Rath, an Assistant Professor from Rajdhani College, Bhubaneswar. Dr. Rath explained:
  • The scientific causes behind anemia.
  • How nutritional deficiencies affect the body.
  • Practical ways to prevent and cure the condition.

Engaging Activities and Management

To keep the atmosphere lively and educational, the organizers held poster-making and music competitions. These activities allowed students to express their creativity while learning about health. At the end of the day, Assistant Professor Gauramohan Sahu joined as the chief guest for the closing ceremony to distribute prizes to the winners.
The smooth execution of the camp was supervised by Youth Red Cross officers Bijayini Shubhadarshini and Dr. Sunil Chandra Pradhan. The stage proceedings were managed by Deepika Rani Turuk.
