NAYAGARH: (Report- Ramakrushna Rath): To empower women and promote local entrepreneurship, the Nayagarh district administration is gearing up for the upcoming Subhadra Shakti Mela. The event is scheduled to take place from January 12 to January 18.
Creating "Lakhpati Didis"
The primary goal of the Subhadra Shakti Mela is to transform members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) into "Lakhpati Didis"—women who earn an annual income of over ₹1 lakh. The administration aims to achieve this through product-based livelihood promotion. This fair acts as a strategic platform where women can showcase traditional skills, local resources, and new business ideas.
The district’s plan focuses on three pillars:
Beyond sales, the mela offers an experiential learning platform. SHG members will interact directly with customers to understand market trends. This feedback will help them improve their product quality, packaging, and branding. It is a vital step in moving from small-scale production to professional, market-driven businesses.
The meeting saw participation from several key officials, including the Lead District Manager (LDM) Lohit Nanda, Tehsildar Rajesh Kumar Swain, and representatives from ORMAS, the police department, and the fire service.
Planning for Progress
A preparatory meeting was held today at the Zilla Parishad conference hall. Lagnajit Rout, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and Executive Officer, chaired the session. The meeting focused on the logistical arrangements and the strategic goals of the week-long fair. Shaswat Kumar Sahu, the District Project Coordinator for Mission Shakti, welcomed the attendees and outlined the program’s vision.Creating "Lakhpati Didis"
