Bhubaneswar, June 29: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha today formally commenced the highly anticipated election process to choose its new State President. This critical internal exercise, set to run for three days, marks a significant step in the party's organizational restructuring within the state.
BJP Odisha State President Election Process Begins Today, Results by July 1

The election process, directed by the party's Central Election Officer Dr. B. Laxman, officially began on June 29th. According to State Election In-charge and Balasore MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi, the voting will conclude by July 1st, with the name of the newly elected State President announced shortly thereafter. This election follows the completion of polls for the party's local committees, mandal committees, and district committees across Odisha.
"Now, the process for electing the State President and members of the National Council will proceed," Sarangi stated. He confirmed that the entire organizational election process in the state will be wrapped up by July 1st.
To ensure the smooth and impartial conduct of this vital election, the Central leadership has appointed Bihar MP Sanjay Jaiswal as an observer. Jaiswal will oversee the proceedings and is expected to arrive in Odisha immediately after the formal election notification is issued.
This election is part of the BJP's mandatory organizational elections held every three years nationwide. The current "Organizational Elections 2024" cycle, which began at the grassroots level, will culminate with the selection of the State President and feed into the national process culminating in the election of the National President.
The selection of the new Odisha BJP chief carries significant political weight. Party sources strongly indicate that a cabinet expansion and reshuffle in the state government will follow the Rath Yatra festival. This reshuffle is widely expected to occur after the new State President is in place. Additionally, appointments to fill vacant chairperson positions in various state corporations and boards are also anticipated alongside the cabinet changes.
The central leadership has emphasized the importance of strengthening the organization alongside governance. With the state government completing one year in office, ensuring a robust party structure is seen as a parallel priority. Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, the party's National General Secretary and Odisha in-charge, is currently stationed in the state to oversee this crucial phase.
The arrival of observer Sanjay Jaiswal is imminent. His presence underscores the central leadership's close watch on the proceedings. The outcome of this election will not only determine the leadership of the state unit but also set the stage for the impending cabinet expansion and appointments, shaping the BJP's political strategy in Odisha for the coming period.
"The organizational elections at the local committee, mandal committee, and district committee levels have concluded successfully," Sarangi reiterated, highlighting the groundwork already laid for this final, decisive stage. All eyes are now on the BJP's internal democratic process over the next three days as it selects the leader who will steer the party in Odisha.
