Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to enhance spiritual tourism and preserve heritage, the Odisha government has announced major security upgrades and infrastructure development at Govardhan Peeth, the sacred seat of Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati.  
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan on Friday. The meeting focused on strengthening security for the Shankaracharya and accelerating developmental projects around the historic Peeth.

Key Decisions Taken by Odisha Govt for Govardhan Peeth  

1. Enhanced Security Measures 

  • The state government will upgrade security arrangements for Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati to ensure his safety.  
  • Special attention will be given to surveillance systems, personnel deployment, and access control around the Peeth.  

2. Infrastructure & Conservation Projects 

  • Conservation of ancient structures within the Peeth premises will be prioritised.  
  • A Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared by the Puri Collector for peripheral development to improve connectivity and facilities.  
  • The Govardhan Peeth Trust Board has been asked to submit proposals for further development.  

3. Boost to Spiritual Tourism  

  • The Puri district administration has been directed to promote Mahodadhi Alati, the evening prayer ritual on Puri Beach, to attract more devotees and tourists.  
  • The state aims to position Govardhan Peeth as a major spiritual and cultural hub, aligning with Odisha’s growing religious tourism sector.
