Daspalla: (Report by Subash Chandra Barik): The Madhyakhanda Community Health Center (CHC), a crucial healthcare facility in Nayagarh district’s Daspalla block, is struggling with severe mismanagement and neglect. Despite being an old and well-established health center that recently received CHC accreditation, the facility continues to face multiple challenges, leaving patients in distress.
The health center serves as a primary medical hub for nearby panchayats, with nearly 200 patients visiting daily. However, the lack of adequate beds and overnight stay facilities forces many patients to endure unnecessary hardships. While five doctors were initially posted here, two have since been transferred, further straining the already overburdened staff.
A major point of frustration is the unfulfilled promise of infrastructure development. Before the elections, the previous BJD government had announced a ₹14 crore grant for upgrading the facility, raising hopes among locals. However, no progress has been made, leading to widespread speculation that the announcement was merely a political tactic. A year has passed, yet no steps have been taken, leaving the community disillusioned.
Meanwhile, the Daspalla hospital, which falls under the Madhyakhanda CHC, is nearing completion of a four-story building. Yet, the Madhyakhanda CHC itself remains in its old, dilapidated state without any visible improvements.
The public now looks to the new government with hope, urging authorities to address these issues with urgency and compassion. Patients and their families desperately need better facilities, and any further delay will only deepen their suffering. The question remains: when will the government take meaningful action to revive this vital healthcare center?
