CUTTACK: (Report - Devidutta Shivaprasad Nayak): Rising road accidents have caused concern for the local administration. To address this issue, the District Level Road Safety Committee held a meeting in the Cuttack Collector's conference room. Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Kamaljit Das led the session.

The committee discussed the progress of current road safety actions and examined new challenges. The ADM gave clear orders to various departments to improve the situation.

Key Decisions and Orders from the Meeting

  • Road Maintenance: The ADM directed mining officials to regularly clean sand from the roads near sand quarries.
  • Encroachment: He told department officials to closely monitor previously cleared areas to stop people from illegally taking over the land again.
  • Traffic Rules: The administration will launch drives to check vehicles parked in no-parking zones.
  • Strict Actions: The ADM ordered police officers to take strong action against reckless drivers and those driving under the influence. He also asked the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to make their regular vehicle checks even stricter.
  • Student Safety: The ADM told education officers to assign specific teachers to manage student safety during the opening and closing times of schools located near busy roads.
Regional Transport Officer Biswajit Das managed the proceedings of the meeting.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Amarendra Panda was present. Members of the district bus and truck owners' associations, volunteer groups, and other department officers also joined the meeting and shared their opinions on road safety.
