NAYAGARH: (Report- Ramakrushna Rath): The 6th State-Level Drama Festival, organised by 'Natyadhara,' witnessed a powerful performance of the play Indrajala on its fifth evening. Staged at the Pathani Samanta Auditorium, the play tells a touching love story that stretches from the small fishing villages of Gopalpur to the snowy cities of Russia.

A Story of Love and Sacrifice

Written by renowned playwright Deepika Das and directed by Devananda Nayak (Soni), the plot revolves around two childhood friends:
  • Srinu: A simple tourist guide in Gopalpur.
  • Leena: A researcher who recently returned from Russia.
As their childhood bond turns into romance, they face opposition from an influential local man named Venkatesh. The story takes a dramatic turn involving 'Indrajala', a rare sea herb. According to local belief, gifting this rare plant to a loved one fulfills their deepest wishes.
To prove his love, Srinu braves a terrifying sea storm to find the herb. The play reaches its climax through Leena's unwavering wait and the local faith that "the sea always returns what it takes."

Stellar Performances and Production

The cast brought the characters to life with emotional depth. Key performers included:
  • Pradeep as Srinu and Soumya as Leena.
  • Supporting roles played by Surya, Babulu, Reetam, Santosh, Prabhat, Vivek, and Chandrasekhar.
The technical team added a professional touch to the production. Shakti Mishra’s music enhanced the atmosphere, while Shubhankar and Kajol Rani’s lighting design created a high-impact visual experience. Additionally, Rahul’s stage set successfully recreated the look and feel of the Gopalpur beach.

Special Recognition

The evening began with an opening ceremony attended by the Chairperson of Nayagarh Municipality, Nirupama Khatei, as the chief guest. During the event, Natyadhara honored playwright Deepika Das and co-director Pradeep Paikray for their contributions.
Prominent members of the organization, including President Pramod Patnaik, Secretary Laxmidhar Sahu, and Director Dr. Bijay Kumar Choudhury, were also present to support the cultural event.
