Bhubaneswar: The preparations for the annual Ashokastami Chariot Festival of Lord Lingaraj are in full swing. Khordha Collector Amrit Ruturaj recently chaired a coordination meeting at the local Circuit House to ensure the event runs smoothly.
Here is the schedule and the plan for the upcoming festivities in Bhubaneswar.

Important Dates and Rituals

The festival officially begins with the Chariot Pulling (Ratha Yatra) on March 26, followed by the Return Journey (Bahuda Yatra) on March 30.

Ritual Timings for Ratha Yatra:
  • 4:00 AM – 4:30 AM: Mangala Alati and Abakasha rituals.
  • Up to 5:00 AM: Sahana Mela (public viewing of the deity).
  • 10:15 AM – 10:45 AM: Completion of Yatra Puja.
  • Post-Puja: The Pahandi (ceremonial procession) begins, followed by the chariot worship and fixing of the wooden horses.
  • 2:30 PM: The pulling of the chariot officially starts.
  • The same timing (2:30 PM) will apply to the Bahuda Yatra on March 30.

Management and Responsibilities

Collector Amrit Ruturaj has directed all departmental officers to carry out their duties efficiently. Key responsibilities have been assigned to ensure a seamless experience for devotees:
  • Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC): Tasked with cleaning, lighting, decorating the temple with flowers, and arranging temporary stalls and drinking water bottles.
  • WATCO: Responsible for continuous water supply, road washing, and placing water tankers at the front and back of the chariot.
  • Safety and Services: Discussions were held to ensure fire safety, uninterrupted power supply, road repairs, and the maintenance of law and order.

Community Support

Ekamra MLA Babu Singh urged everyone to cooperate and work together for a disciplined and peaceful festival. The meeting was attended by Additional Collector Ramesh Chandra Jena, Sub-Collector Dr. Manoranjan Sahu, and several other senior officials and temple servitors.
