BERHAMPUR: (Report- Ramakrushna Pani): The Ganjam district administration paid a heartfelt tribute to the legendary tribal freedom fighter, Veer Laxman Nayak, on his 84th Martyrdom Day. The event took place at the Berhampur Circle Jail, where officials and citizens gathered to honor the legacy of one of Odisha’s greatest sons.

A Legacy of Courage and Sacrifice

Laxman Nayak remains a unique symbol of tribal bravery and self-respect in the history of the Indian independence movement. He played a pivotal role in the struggle against British rule, particularly in the Koraput region. On this solemn occasion, guests offered floral tributes and garlands at his statue and portrait located both inside and outside the jail premises.
The Collector of Ganjam, V. Keerthi Vashan, addressed the gathering with an inspiring message. He emphasized that Laxman Nayak is among the brave souls who enriched the history of India's freedom with their ultimate sacrifice.

"His life of struggle and his selfless sacrifice will always be a source of pride for the people of Odisha," the Collector stated.

Fulfilling the Vision of a Martyr

During the ceremony, officials highlighted the importance of honoring the dreams of those who died for the nation. Collector Vashan remarked that it is the collective responsibility of today’s citizens to fulfill the vision Laxman Nayak had for a free India. He urged everyone to work toward the development and progress of the motherland as a true tribute to the martyr.

Dignitaries Join the Commemoration

The event saw participation from several prominent leaders and officials, including:
  • Sanghamitra Dalai, Mayor of Berhampur Municipal Corporation.
  • Avinash Kumar, Sub-Collector of Berhampur.
  • Sourabh Pradhan, District Information and Public Relations Officer.
  • Rashmirani Nimaka, Sub-divisional Information and Public Relations Officer.
  • Laxmikant Dhangda Majhi, Jail Superintendent.
Representatives from various social organisations, prison staff, and members of the media also attended the program. The atmosphere was filled with respect and patriotism as the speakers recounted the historical importance of Nayak’s contribution to the "Quit India" movement.
