Details of the Accident

The private bus, named ‘Anil’ (registration number OD 33 C 2088), started its journey from Berhampur on Friday evening. It was carrying approximately 60 passengers from various parts of Ganjam district. The group was heading toward Harisankar for a vacation.
Around midnight, while traveling on National Highway 57, the driver lost control at a sharp turn near the Hanuman Temple in Takara Ghati. The bus hit a large rock and flipped over. Witnesses described the scene as devastating.
Local residents, along with police teams from Dashapalla and Banigochha and the fire department, rushed to the spot. The impact was so severe that rescuers had to use gas cutters to cut through the metal and reach the driver.
The injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals. While 15 people in critical condition were moved to the District Headquarters Hospital, others are receiving treatment at the Daspalla Community Health Center.
The accident claimed the lives of five individuals, including three women and two men. The deceased have been identified as Praveen Kumar Sahu (31) – the driver, L. Hari Patra (62),  L. Laxmi Patra (55), Suprabha Sahu (53) and Sumati Sahu (29).
The Daspalla police have registered a case and seized the vehicle for further investigation. Reports indicate that a local agent named Santosh Patra from Berhampur had organised the tour.
