Daspalla: (Report- Subash Chandra Barik): In a significant effort to boost public health awareness, the Banigocha Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Dashapalla organised a special event to mark World Cancer Day. The program was conducted under the "Sampurnata Abhiyan" initiative, focusing on early detection and healthy lifestyle choices.

The event commenced at 8:00 AM and saw active participation from the local community. Dr. Kaliprasad Sarangi led the program alongside a dedicated team of healthcare professionals, including Pharmacist Sushil Pradhan, Nursing Officer Shubhankar Mishra, and Multi-Purpose Health Worker Sumitra Dehury.

Raising Awareness on Early Detection

During the session, Dr. Sarangi addressed the gathering about the rising concerns of cancer. He explained the causes, symptoms, and treatment options in simple terms to ensure everyone understood the risks. He specifically highlighted the three most common types of cancer found in the country:
  • Oral Cancer
  • Breast Cancer
  • Cervical Cancer
The doctor emphasized that early screening is the most effective tool in fighting these diseases. Beyond cancer awareness, the medical team conducted a comprehensive health camp. Patients received screenings for anemia, high blood pressure, diabetes, and tuberculosis.

Promoting a Healthier Lifestyle

The medical staff urged citizens to take proactive steps toward their well-being. Dr. Sarangi advised the public to avoid self-medication and consult a doctor immediately if they feel unwell. He shared several practical tips for a disease-free life:
  • Dietary Changes: Include plenty of fresh fruits and green vegetables grown in home gardens.
  • Avoid Harmful Habits: Completely quit smoking, alcohol, and tobacco products.
  • Say No to Junk Food: Avoid processed and "packet" foods that contain high preservatives.
  • Physical Activity: Practice Yoga and Pranayama daily to maintain physical and mental balance.

Community Impact

The health camp was a success, with over 105 citizens registering for check-ups and receiving free consultations. The facility remained busy throughout the day as staff distributed necessary medicines and conducted tests. The program concluded smoothly at 6:00 PM.
