Nayagarh: (Report- Ramakrushna Rath): Locals have intensified their demand for a medical college in the Nayagarh district headquarters. To lead this movement, citizens formed the "Nayagarh Medical College Action Committee."
A large meeting took place at the Nilamadhaba Kalyan Mandap to organise the committee. Hundreds of people from various blocks attended the event. The group included intellectuals, senior citizens, members of the Bus Association and Traders' Union, Rotarians, journalists, and representatives from different political parties.
Additionally, recent discussions in the Assembly suggested establishing the college in Chandpur. This proposal sparked strong opposition across seven blocks in the district.
To manage these activities, the group formed a 30-member "Action Plan Committee." The leaders stated they will force the government to accept their demands through strong protests if the administration ignores their request.

The committee members expressed concern regarding the state government's recent announcements. Although the government promised medical colleges for all districts, they did not specifically name Nayagarh.Additionally, recent discussions in the Assembly suggested establishing the college in Chandpur. This proposal sparked strong opposition across seven blocks in the district.
"Nayagarh town sits in the center of the district. Therefore, everyone agrees it is the best location for the new facility."
Key Demands
The committee outlined specific requirements and arguments for the administration:- Location: The college must be in the district headquarters, not on the outskirts.
- Land Availability: The committee identified 117 acres of government land near the Sadar Police Station as the ideal site.
- Fairness: Since other districts received medical colleges in their headquarters, members insisted that the government should not politicize the issue in Nayagarh.
Plan of Action
The members discussed how to take the movement forward. They decided to submit formal demands to the Chief Minister and the Governor.
