India marked Navy Day 2025 with powerful celebrations and a firm salute to the brave personnel of the Indian Navy. The main event, featuring an impressive operational demonstration by the Navy, took place in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, and was graced by President Droupadi Murmu.
President Murmu Praises Commitment and Self-Reliance
In her address, President Murmu extended warm greetings to Navy personnel, veterans, and their families. "The Indian Navy stands as the principal actor for the security of our seas," President Murmu stated. She pointed out the Navy’s extensive responsibilities, including deterring threats, combating piracy, securing India's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), and ensuring the freedom of navigation.
She also emphasized the Navy's embodiment of discipline, compassion, and responsibility through its actions, from securing vital trade routes and strengthening the blue economy to leading essential humanitarian missions.
A key focus of her speech was the Navy’s efforts towards modernization and technological advancement. President Murmu expressed her admiration for the Navy’s increasing indigenous capability to design and build complex platforms within India itself. This self-reliance is seen as vital for maintaining the armed force's combat readiness.
President Murmu concluded by stating that the Navy’s work in securing sea routes, protecting marine resources, preventing illegal activities, and supporting research directly strengthens India's vision for safe, prosperous, and sustainable oceans. She affirmed that the people of India remain deeply grateful and proud of the Navy's service.
