Kolkata: (Report- Sanatan Mahakud): Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata proudly announces that its student team “Team Waterloo” has been declared National Winners at the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025 for the NCIIPC India (A unit of NTRO) Problem Statement – SIH25232 (Software edition). The team was felicitated on stage by the Chairman of AICTE, Prof. T.G. Sitharam, during the national ceremony.
Heritage Institute Wins National SIH 2025 Title for NTRO Challenge

The team developed an advanced illegal mining detection and analysis platform, integrating:
  • SAR-based deep-learning detection
  • DEM-driven volumetric analysis
  • Automated illegal-mining assessment
  • 2D/3D geospatial visualization
  • Offline-ready analytical environment
Midway through the finale, NTRO officials asked all teams to shift from multispectral data to an entirely SAR-only architecture. The Heritage team successfully re-engineered the entire system overnight—training a new SAR model, rebuilding backend pipelines, and creating an enhanced 3D analytical interface using CesiumJS and Three.js.
Their solution was appreciated for its accuracy, speed, technical depth, and real-world relevance.
Selected from over 72,000 ideas and 68,000+ teams nationwide, this victory marks a significant accomplishment for the institute and reinforces Heritage Institute of Technology’s commitment to innovation and national problem solving.
