The state government plans to make the energy supply chain a central component of its overall development policy. This strategic focus aims to significantly reduce the cost of fossil fuel power generation and consumption. By proactively transitioning away from traditional sources, the state expects to achieve its green energy target by 2036, marking a major milestone in sustainable development.

Long-Term Net-Zero Goal

Chief Minister Majhi reaffirmed Odisha's commitment to India's long-term environmental vision. He stated that the government actively works toward achieving Net-Zero Carbon Emissions by 2070. This national commitment requires immense responsibility, and the state government is fully dedicated to meeting this goal. The Global Energy Leaders’ Summit, he added, provides an essential platform for policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to create a clear, unified roadmap for this clean energy transition.
The Chief Minister stressed that a steady and robust energy supply is vital for the continuous progress of any state or society, making electricity a top priority and essential infrastructure for self-reliance. Renewables Drive Industrial Policy

Majhi highlighted the significant emphasis the state’s industrial policy places on power generation. Crucially, the policy specifically promotes renewable energy sources. The government has included renewable energy as a domestic industry, giving it a special status to attract investment and accelerate development.
Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who also attended the event, outlined further specific goals. He stated that Odisha aims for widespread adoption of renewable energy across its industry and agriculture sectors by 2030. By 2036, when the state celebrates its centenary, the Deputy CM envisions Odisha as a leading hub for clean energy, manufacturing, and green hydrogen technology.
The Chief Minister’s announcements signal Odisha's position at the forefront of India’s energy transformation, setting a clear precedent for other states to prioritize self-sufficiency and sustainability.
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, commended Odisha's focused approach. The Union Minister announced the approval of 1.5 lakh rooftop solar installations for the state, a major initiative expected to benefit approximately seven to eight lakh people. Joshi highlighted India's rapid expansion in solar capacity, citing its growth from 2.8 GW to around 130 GW in the last eleven years, and affirmed Odisha's critical role in driving this national clean energy transition.
